KEITH MACKLINKeith Macklin, who died on 31 July, 2009, aged 78, was a veteran sports broadcaster and journalist from the north west of England.He was best known as a rugby league commentator on Red Rose Radio having been an avid follower of the game since his childhood.He also covered other sports, including Leeds United (while working for Yorkshire TV) and Blackburn Rover’s glory years in football’s top bracket, cricket, crown green bowls and even the Olympic Games.He also covered such major news stories as the Abbeystead water treatment plant disaster in 1984 and the Lockerbie bombing of ’88.He began his journalism career at the Liverpool Express and went on to work for several local papers before going into broadcasting, making his commentary debut on BBC North in the mid ’50s.He published an autobiography, A Two Horse Town: 50 Years in Broadcasting, in 2007.
