You were my first husband and father to our wonderful children. We met, married and had children far too young to know ourselves or for our relationship to last but you will always be the first man I loved. I know your last years were marked by ill health but I choose to remember you as the strong and handsome man with whom I travelled many miles across the UK and abroad with nothing more than our thumbs to summon lifts, a belief that we would always find some way of eating without money and a strong sense of adventure.
