KERMIT SCOTTKermit Scott, the American professor of philosophy who was said to have inspired the creation of Kermit the Frog, died on 26 May, 2008, aged 71.Mr Scott and the creator of the famous TV puppet character, Jim Henson, were childhood friends. The two played together as boys in Leland, Mississippi, but lost contact when the Henson family moved away. It was not until years later that Mr Scott learned that his old pal had named one of his Muppets, Kermit the Frog, after him.He was reported to be delighted, but never sought any publicity from the connection. Family and friends said Mr Scott shared his namesake¹s whimsical smile. I have just recently learned of Professor Scott's passing, and I am so sorry for your loss. I was a young undergraduate at Purdue University when I met Professor Scott. I was hired as a work study student to help the Philosphy Department, which he was the head of. Since I graduated in 1990, I've always remembered him and the Department fondly. May your memories of him help you and your family in the days and years to come.

About 11 years ago Kermit counseled my husband and I. Although we did finally get a divorce, I will always remember Mr. Scott as a very compasionate and caring person. My brother had him as a professor at Purdue and said that he was a remarkable teacher and person. I don't know why I thought of him today, but just thinking of his wise counsel helps to lift my spirits.
