The obituary notice of Betty KERR (GATESHEAD FORMERLY KELLS LANE LOWFELL & VIGO)

Tribute Part 2:
As I write this in July 2023 this would have been my Mother's Centenary year - I miss my Mother everyday and pay personal tribute to her viewing photos that show my Mother during happy holidays and other meaningful occasions alongside her also sadly missed Sister, Joyce - who died a matter of weeks before Betty. My Mother was the final of a triple-blow of deaths within the space of a few months, involving her beloved Sister (Joyce), My Mother’s eldest Son, Kenneth - and finally my Mother herself. All so difficult to deal with, multiplied even more by the impact of the COVID pandemic.
Dear Mum, I hope you are Resting in Peace, always missed every hour of everyday. ‘Till We meet again - Love Always, Neil.

Part 1 of Tribute:
My Mother was born into a family who worked extremely long hours and lived within the premises that were the local fruit shop in Kells Lane, Low Fell. Eventually my Grandmother, my Mother's Mum, Victoria Brown, took on the running of the fruit shop while Grandfather (the late Cecil Brown) ran a filling station and car repair business close by. Although my Grandparents retired owning two businesses, they were by no means, well-off, preferring to charge an honest amount and providing good value for money, over profiteering.
My Mother married twice, first in 1953 to the late Arnold Meikle (David Barnes Arnold, also known as Jock or Davey), then in later-life to Francis Kerr, late of Southampton, whom my Mother first met in the RAF during World-War II.
Betty, as my Mother was christened, was Mother of two Sons, Kenneth David Meikle (who very sadly died a mater of days prior to my Mother), and myself, Neil Douglas Meikle.
The family home, and my Mother’s most long-term home was at Vigo Birtley and she returned to the Civil Service in later working life to the then DHSS’ Emerson, then Durham House, both in Washington (Tyne & Wear) as my father (Arnold Meikle) suffered a Brian Haemorrhage and could no longer work, and he died aged 52.
Unfortunately, as may be often the case, it was not until it was too-late to make it very clear to my Mother that I came to realise what a wonderful person she was, as she became burdened by Vascular Dementia in the last two years of Life.
