CarolKINGPassed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday 18th March 2024 Aged 79 years

Carol King, officially known as "Grey-Grey", "Gromit" or simply ''Grandma'' to her Grandchildren, was nothing less than a shining light of strength and love to those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Carol's capacity for compassion and dedication to her family, her work, and her community was matched only by her dedication to her faith and her trust in God. She was more than just a Mother, a Grandmother, a Sister or a Friend; she was home to many people.

Throughout her remarkable life, Carol showed strength and resilience. As the first black female Assistant Director of Nursing at the Towers Hospital in Leicester, she paved the way for a whole community of nursing professionals; and without even knowing it, her leadership inspired countless people. She was an incredibly accomplished woman, who earned recognition from the Mayor of Leicester and also received an invitation to the House of Commons in honour of her exceptional contributions to her community.

However, Carol's impact extended far beyond the confines of her professional accomplishments. She was a devoted Mother of two, Grandmother of five, and Great-Grandmother of two. She always found time for her family and friends; ensuring that each person felt cherished and supported. But perhaps Carol's most enduring legacy lies in the way she made everyone feel valued and welcomed in her presence.

As we bid farewell to Carol, we find solace in knowing that her spirit will continue to live on in those that love and have been loved by her. Carol leaves behind a world that is infinitely richer because of her presence in it.

Carol's Funeral Service will be held at Uppingham Road Methodist Church on Tuesday 16th April at 12.00 noon Followed by a Burial at Gilroes Cemetery.

Family flowers only donations will be kindly accepted on the day for Dementia UK.

It's with great Sadness and a heavy heart 😔 that I'm writing this tribute. I've had the utmost Pleasure and Joy to have met you in Dec 1999. You've took me under your wings as a Daughter, you are the Mother I did not have close to me, and Iam ever so Blessed and Grateful. You've helped me to Settled in due to the Volcano back home in Montserrat 🇲🇸You've not even Celebrated your (60th) Birthday, because you were running around with Me making sure that my Wedding day on the 1st May 2004 went off really well, because of you it did could not have done it without you. My second Mama you were always there for me and my Family. You are the Proud Godmother of my Daughter and you always said that my Son is your little man you loved them so much, you are such a Caring, Selfless Loving and always put others before yourself. Iam so distraught and Sadden by your passing, but God knows Best, no more suffering and Pain SIP amongst the Angels 🕊🕊🌻🌺

Carol,

We are so sad to hear of your passing. You were an inspirational community leader, whether fighting for the rights of people living with sickle cell, going way back to the founding of Leicester OSCAR in 1985; supporting those displaced from Monserrat after the volcanic eruption in 1997; or in helping those with mental health challenges prepare for life in the community. May your family take comfort in knowing that you made the lives of countless others better for your being in the world,

Rest in peace,

Simon and Sue Dyson
