I only knew Mark for a few months in the spring of 1999. I went to work for Eurocamp in the Vendee region of France, putting up tents before the holiday season started—"Montage," as it's known.
Mark also started working there at the same time, and I feel fortunate that our paths crossed, even if it was relatively brief.
I don't think I've ever met anyone like him since. He made a lasting impression on me. It's impossible to explain Mark's aura and personality in words, but to me, he came across as someone who was incredibly sensitive yet confident, a dreamer, a thinker, someone who had time for people but was also a free spirit who knew how to enjoy himself. I think these contradictions made him unique.
I didn't learn of his passing until a few years later, but needless to say, I think of him often and felt I should leave a tribute, even if it has been many years since he left us.
