DerekKINGSTONKINGSTON Derek. Died suddenly at home in Warrington, January 19. Well known and much loved G&S principal tenor in the Birmingham area. Will be very sadly missed by all his friends at Birmingham Savoyards. "Is life a boon? If so it must befall that Death, whene'er he call, must call too soon." Yeomen of the Guard In fond memory of Derek, a Concert of Gilbert and Sullivan music (Derek's passion) was performed by Birmingham Savoyards on Sunday, 12th July 2009 at St Peter's Church, Tile Cross, Birmingham. The concert was well attended by a good mix of friends: those who knew Derek well, and those who felt they knew him through their enjoyment of seeing him perform on stage over the years. We would particularly like to thank those who travelled a considerable distance to join us for this tribute to Derek. It was a joyous occasion and we could all feel Derek amongst us in spirit, no doubt singing with gusto as he looked down on us, perched on his cloud! There was no charge for this event but a retiring collection raised £400 in aid of Derek's favourite charity: CAT'S PROTECTION c/o COOP Funeral Services, Earl's House, 238 Crow Lane East, Newton Le Willows, Merseyside, WA12 9UA.
