RainerKNIGGEMr Rainer Knigge sadly passed away on Friday, June 11, in the Royal Blackburn Hospital. Rainer was the beloved husband and soulmate of Yvonne, a fantastic father to Sabine, Mellisa, Dee and Heidi, and father-in-law of Dean, Alison and Nick. Rainer was the eldest son of the late Hilda, brother to Axle and Odette, brother-in-law of Norman, Ian and Bob, grandfather of Kurt, Lauren, Kaine, Kerry, Joe, Amber, Abi, Cam, Callum and the late Zac; great grandfather of Jaiden, Freddie, Jessica, George, Jude, Grayson, Josh, Ronnie, and the late Charlie, good friend of Barbara, and many, many more.
Rainer was born in Neustadt Am Rübenberge, where he spent his early childhood, until he moved to Lancashire in his late teens with Axle and their mother, where he settled and raised his children. Rainer served his apprenticeship and worked as a joiner until he turned his hand to building industrial boilers as his own boss, along with his son Dee. He retired from the business in 2006.
Rainer was well known for being a self confessed gadget man, and had a gadget or tool for every job imaginable. But his main hobby in life was travelling with his wife, Yvonne. They have travelled both abroad on many holidays, but particularly enjoyed travelling around Europe and the UK in their caravans and campervan, living it up in Max and Paddy style both as a couple, or with their close knit friendship group, where Rainer was often the life and soul of the party.
Rainer will be cremated at Accrington Crematorium on Monday, June 21, at 1pm. Due to current Covid restrictions, attendance within the Crematorium will be strictly by family invitation only. There will be a celebration at Oswaldtwistle Conservative Club afterwards. Family flowers only please, any donations will be received with thanks for the British Heart Foundation c/o Mrs Y Knigge, Oswaldtwistle Funeral Services, 235 Union Rd, Oswaldtwistle, Accrington BB5 3HU. Funeral Director: Oswaldtwistle Funeral Services.
