Robert HipwellKNIGHTDr Robert Hipwell Knight (1928-2022) On 24th January 2022 Robert died peacefully at Derriford hospital following a short stay. Robert was the beloved husband of Dr Jan Knight and father of Mathew, Trevor, Paul, Hannah and Pauline and stepfather to Jan's children Michael and Lisa. A much-loved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, colleague and friend especially of Mary. He has inspired generations of people of all ages and backgrounds with his infectious enthusiasm and his unique ability to explain the most complicated and sometimes esoteric scientific principles in simple, easy to understand language. He was the ultimate communicator and teacher. The beauty of science was expressed in his exquisite drawings, photographs through the microscope and wood turnings. And many people in Plymouth will remember him on radio and television talking about Mr Park's chemist shop when he was curator of Park Pharmacy Trust. He was a true Polymath and will be greatly missed. The Funeral will be held at Glynn Valley Crematorium, Bodmin, PL30 4AP on 18th February at 14.30. Later in the year there will be a Memorial to celebrate his life and work. Donations in support of the Open University can be made through: Cooperative Funeral Service 61 Exeter Street, Plymouth, PL4 0AH, Tel: 01752 303800
