I first encountered John on a windy field - he was running training for Ash Celtic, of course I wasn’t good enough to play for Ash Celtic… John probably told me so in not too many words. The family moved to our road a year or so later I became close friends and school mate of his eldest son Jon. I joined the family on holidays in north Wales, great memories - John liked free wheeling the car down a steep hill and seeing how long before we came to a virtual standstill or cause a crash… John was a bigger than life character, old fashioned in many ways who enjoyed a laugh and I’m pleased to have shared his company and a few pints with him over the years. My condolences and thoughts to Fran and the boys.
