KathleenLAWRENCEKathleen Lawrence, aged 79, of Derby Street, Accrington, died suddenly on Thursday, April 1, at Moor Park Nursing Home in Preston. Kathleen was the dearly loved mother of David, partner of Gerald, and leaves nephew Stephen and Amy. She will be sadly missed by all her family and friends and her black labrador retriever dog Bruce. Until a serious accident in October, Kathleen was very active, walking into the town centre regularly, and she took great pride in cleaning her house at every opportunity. Kathleen worked straight from school. She was very hard working, and had various jobs, including Catlow’s Grocers Accrington, XL Crisps Great Harwood, cleaner at St Christopher’s School Accrington, and she made many lifelong friends during her working life. Kathleen loved the street in Accrington where she lived for 57 years. She developed strong community friendships with neighbours and neighbourhood police and local councillors. Her hobbies included dancing, including rock and roll. She loved her dancing and used to enter dance competitions and loved Mary ‘Mort’ Mortimer’s dance hall on Blackburn Road Accrington and the Arcadian Ballroom, on Knowlmere Street, Accrington. 1950’s to 1960’s music was her love, especially Elvis Presley. Her other hobbies included UK holidays with Gerald, traditional English food cooking, sewing, jigsaws and puzzle books. Family celebrations and parties were also enjoyed by Kathleen. Her favorite television viewing included Strictly Come Dancing, Last of the Summer Wine, dog and police programmes, and Match of the Day. She also enjoyed reading local newspapers. Radio Lancashire was the only local radio station she would listen to; sometimes this would be for up to 16 hours daily. On a night out with Gerald, Kathleen spent many recent happy times at Platt’s Social Club, Clayton Conservative Club, plus others such as Brooks, King Street, Central. Wherever possible she would be on her feet dancing and playing bingo at every opportunity. The death of Kathleen is a very sad loss for David and his wife Maureen and all her family, Gerald, Stephen and Amy, and all the family, and she will be greatly missed. She was, and always will be, a true lifelong inspiration to all those who knew her. Kathleen had a very loving and caring personality and would always be willing to talk and help people. She will always have all our love and will be in all our thoughts for ever. We will always carry her memory in our hearts. The funeral service was due to take place at Accrington Crematorium on Thursday, April 15 at 11am. No flowers please, just donations to North West Air Ambulance Charity c/o funeral director Hyndburn Funeral Services, Accrington.
