I can remember when Uncle Derek worked for DER in Newcastle all those years ago when we were young. DER was on the corner of the arcade where the Rex and Rio Cinemas were, Lloyds Bank is in that site now in High Street Newcastle. There was a cafe on the other side of the arcade where me and my friends would sit before we went into the pictures on a Saturday afternoon. We must have been about 11 or 12 years old then. Uncle Derek always fixed our televisions when they went wrong, in those days they were big items of wooden furniture with folding doors on the front. Uncle Derek got our first colour tv for us. How quickly the years fly by.
