Thanksgiving (You and I)
You welcomed me into your family and into your heart
(I proudly called you my second, bonus mum)
You trusted me with your beloved son and your precious grandchildren
(I was honoured, you had all been hurt before)
You introduced me to Staffordshire oatcakes and coconut macaroons
(I will make them from your recipe every Christmas)
You comforted me when Percy died
(I knew your world was falling apart)
You showed me how to rebuild after loss
(I admired your new hobbies and friends and bravery)
You supported my studies and respected my parenting
(I worked hard and loved making you proud)
You proved that long distance grandparents can have close relationships
(I loved you snuggling my first grandchild, like my sons all those years ago)
Thanks for everything, mum. Most of all, thank you for the life and the love and the laughter we’ve shared over 25 years. Night and bless xxx
