PeterLEEFormer ROF staff employee Peter Lee, of Springhill Care Home and formerly of Church, died on Sunday, April 17, aged 94. Born in Leeds, he won a scholarship to Leeds Catholic College. After gaining the National School Certificate, he worked as an electrical apprentice, then completed his Army National Service in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, working as a radar engineer. His final year of Army Service saw him selected for a specialist REME Unit in Malvern, testing proposed new equipment. After his Army service he moved to Accrington with his late wife Margaret in 1952, joining English Electric as a radar engineer. Later, he moved to work in the electronics department of ROF Blackburn as Professional Technology Officer. In 1985, he was awarded the Imperial Service Medal for meritorious service to the crown, and retired from the ROF in 1986. He enjoyed worldwide short-wave radio listening, photography, and his computer. He won a Christmas short story competition with a local newspaper. He leaves his son Anthony.
