DorothyLEIGHTONMrs Dorothy Leighton passed away aged 94 at her home of 55 years on Oakwood Road, Accrington, on Thursday, August 11. Widow of the late Kenneth Leighton, Mum to Elizabeth and Andrew, Granny to Richard, Ian, and David, and GreatGranny to Vivian and Romy. She also leaves behind her much loved brother Owen. She will be sorely missed by all her family and many friends. Dorothy was born in Blackburn, but moved to Accrington with her parents as a child, where she spent most of her life, working initially as a shorthand typist, then later as a secretary for various local businesses. She was a keen member of St Anne’s Ladies Group and the Friendship Club, and in the past had trained as an instructor for the Keep Fit Association, both attending and teaching classes in the area. A Requiem Mass will be held at St Anne’s RC Church, Cobham Road, Accrington, at 10am on Monday, September 5, led by Fr Callum Brown, followed by burial at Accrington Cemetery. No flowers please; donations are welcome to St Anne’s RC Church c/o funeral director Hyndburn Funeral Services, Accrington.
