LEN BROWNINGLen Browning, who died on 27 September, 2008, aged 80, was a striker who scored consistently during his short career.His playing days were ended when he was just 25 after a bout of tuberculosis, but in that time he had already topped the scoring charts at Leeds and helped Sheffield United win the Second Division Championship.Brownin g was born in Leeds on 30 March, 1928, and joined his hometown club at 18. Within two years he was a first team regular and went on to notch up 46 goals in 105 appearances in the Second Division before being sold to rivals Sheffield in November 1951 for £12,000.He managed an impressive 25 goals in 65 games and helped guide the Blades to promotion, but he played his last match at the start of the 1953/54 season before being forced to retire because of illness.He went on to work for Leeds United as a video analyst, helping managers Howard Wilkinson, David O'Leary and Peter Reid assess recent matches and forthcoming opposition.Aside from football he was a talented table tennis player and represented various Leeds-based clubs over the years.
