Mary EllenLOFTUSMrs Mary Ellen Loftus, of Sandy Lane, Accrington, passed away peacefully in the East Lancashire Hospice on Friday, June 5, aged 86. Born in Bonniconlon, Co. Mayo on 4th December 1933, Mary then moved to England in 1953 and began working at Holland’s Pies before working for many years as a Home Help for Lancashire County Council until her retirement. The dearly loved wife of the late Tom, who she married at St Anne’s RC Church, Accrington in November 1955, she was dear mum of Patrick and Francis, and mother-in-law of Diane. She was the much loved daughter of the late Patrick and Catherine, the dear sister of Paddy, Frank and Jack, and also a dear sister-in-law and auntie to many nieces and nephews. A quiet and well respected lady, Mary was an active member of St Anne’s RC Church and was often involved with church activities. She enjoyed taking regular holidays back to Ireland to visit family and friends and she often enjoyed day trips to Southport. She also enjoyed socialising with her friends and playing bingo. The family would also like to extend their thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Royal Blackburn Hospital and the East Lancashire Hospice. Due to the current circumstances, a small family burial service will be held at Accrington Cemetery. Family flowers only please, however donations if desired to the East Lancashire Hospice and Cancer Research c/o Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queens Road, Accrington.
