RitaLOMAXWith deep sadness, the family of Rita Lomax - nee Wilkinson - of Rising Bridge announce her passing on Tuesday, December 14, aged 83 at her home. Rita was the loving wife of Frank for 64 years. She was an amazing, wonderful mum to her daughters Kim and Wendy, and a dear mother-in-law to Ian and David. Rita was the very special and much loved grandma to Charlotte. She also leaves her sister Doreen, nephew David and many other relatives and dear friends, especially Sheila who she met on her first day of work as a sewing machinist at the age of 15. Rita then worked in the NHS on maternity and paediatric wards, up until her retirement. It was here that she made some of her best friends. Rita was a fantastic, meticulous seamstress, who made clothes for her daughters for many years; including both of their wedding dresses and bridesmaids dresses. She also made her granddaughter’s hand-beaded prom dress, which really was a labour of love. Rita was an excellent baker, often baking for her church St James’, Haslingden. Her garden was another of her hobbies; she spent many hours tending to her plants and flowers. Her greatest passion though, was Spain. She met some lovely new friends when she decided to learn the language. Rita loved to holiday in Spain, her favourite place being Torremolinos, where she would visit regularly with her family. Rita touched the lives of many with her kind heart and lovely manner. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her funeral will be held at 10am on Friday, December 24, at St James’ Church, Haslingden, followed by committal at 11am at Accrington Crematorium. Family flowers only please; donations if desired can be made to Rossendale Hospice. Funeral director: Hyndburn Funeral Services, Accrington.
