BrianLYTHGOEMr Brian Lythgoe, of Helmshore, died peacefully at Turfcote on Monday, July 18, accompanied by his family as he passed, aged 87. Brian was the dearly loved husband to Anne, dad to Stephen and father-in-law to Michaela. He was a much loved grandpa to Jacob, Harriet, Tobias and Max, who brought him great happiness. Born in Standish in 1935 to James and Dorothy, 12 years later his family moved to Blackpool, where he grew up, meeting his sweetheart Anne in 1955, whom he married in 1960. Brian and Anne moved to Helmshore in 1965 to allow him to pursue his career in accountancy at Hyndburn Borough Council. Their only son Stephen was born two years later. Brian remained at Hyndburn BC until his retirement having achieved promotions through the ranks to eventually become Director of Finance, and for a short while Acting Chief Executive. He was honoured to serve the Hyndburn community and fiercely proud of his reputation for honesty, integrity and frugality. Always generous with his time, over the years he volunteered to assist with finances and accounting at many varied organisations, notably Chaigley Manor Children’s Charity, the Maundy Trust, Haslingden Swimming Club, and the Haslingden and Edenfield Conservative Clubs. A keen model and steam railway enthusiast, he was delighted to play a key volunteer role with the finances at East Lancs Railway from the inception of the Bury Transport Museum to the opening of the lines through from Rawtenstall to Bury, a day that brought him much joy. He was also pleased to be a governor at Broadway school for 13 years. A keen football supporter, he was a season ticket holder at Blackburn Rovers for nearly 30 years, attending with his son Stephen, and latterly with his grandsons Jacob, Max and Tobias. In any spare time he could be found hacking enthusiastically around a golf course, lovingly tending to his garden, or more likely walking his much adored dogs around Helmshore and his favourite walk down the old Railway Lines. He was blessed to be able to generously spend time with his grandchildren as they grew up and was incredibly proud of the young adults he had closely watched and contributed to them becoming. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. His funeral will be held at Accrington Crematorium on Monday, August 8 at 11am. Family flowers only please, but should you wish to make a donation the family expressed RNLI and Air Ambulance as a preference. All are welcome to join us to celebrate his life and afterwards at Sykeside House Hotel which was one of his favourite places and the scene of many a family celebration. Funeral director: Caroline Holden Dewhurst for Johnson, Durning & Woods Funeral Service, Haslingden.
