MARK SUTCLIFFETributes were paid to courageous East Riding head teacher Mark Sutcliffe who died from leukaemia on 29 June, 2010.Mr Sutcliffe lost his fight for life in Calderdale Hospital, Halifax, after spending a happy weekend with his family there.His wife Justine said: "He put up a courageous fight, never complained, and just got on with it because he wanted to get better. We are very proud of him."Julie Logan, acting head teacher at Beeford Primary School, said: "Mark basically dragged this school into this century and made it a wonderful place for the staff and children."He was the most non-judgmental person with tremendous vision and his aim was to give every child who came here the best chance in life."Mark was the most wonderful man, friend and teacher, and everyone is shocked and devastated at his passing."Mr Sutcliffe had been head teacher at the 84-pupil village school for almost five years.Children have been writing little messages for him and drawing pictures, and these will be passed on to his grieving family.Mrs Logan said: "Everything was all about people with Mark, not statistics, and the children's education and welfare came first."He was a great people person who was held in high esteem, not only in the school, but the whole community."Mr Sutcliffe was survived by two daughters Molly, 9, and Lottie, 7.Justine said: "Mark would have hated to linger and die. He died with great dignity."
