RueMCCLANAHAN, who died on 3 June, 2010, was best known for her role as Blanche Devereaux in the huge US sitcom The Golden Girls.
She died in New York, aged 76.
Born Eddi-Rue McClanahan in Oklahoma in 1934, she began acting in 1957.
She made her Broadway debut in 1969 in Jimmy Shine, with Dustin Hoffman in the title role.
Her first television role was in Another World, and she went on to star in numerous other shows including Where the Heart Is (1971-72), Maude (1974-78) and The Golden Girls Spin off Show Golden Palace (1992-93) and countless TV movies.
She received an Emmy Award in 1987 for Outstanding Lead Actress for her role in The Golden Girls, where she played the man-crazed Southern belle Blanche Devereaux. The series ran from 1985-1992.
Her most recent work included the 2003 film The Fighting Temptations, which starred Beyonce, and Generation Gap (2008).
She was married five times.

Out of all the characters you have played, I love Blanche Devereaux the most. You were an outstanding performer. I'll be watching Blanche until the day I die. Thanks for the memorable performances. You will be missed. gina.

I grew up with Rue watching Golden Girls.I love her then and now. She always makes me smile.So sad she's gone.
