ElizabethMCCORMICKnée Byrne died at home in Rawtenstall, after a fierce but unexpectedly short battle with cancer, aged 81. She was a much-loved mother, wife, sister, aunt, grandma and Godmother. She retired from her post as a primary school teacher at Guardian Angels Primary School, Bury, stepping down to care for her beloved children Rachel, Dominic and Daniel and support her husband Mike in launching his engineering business. She devoted her life to the service of others, being a key member of Edie Garrett's Concert Party in the Bury and district areas. She brought joy and respite to many, together with her sister Cath, great friend Mary Fish and others. She will be greatly missed by all of her extended family and friends, and her many friends at St James the Less Rawtenstall, where she took a very active role. Wife to the late Michael McCormick, and sister of the late Tom and Jim Byrne and Cath Bennett, she is survived by her brothers, George and Joseph, and sister Mary. She had late in-laws Tony McCormick, Jack Bennett and Jean Byrne and surviving in-laws John and Verla and Kevin McCormick, Margaret McCormick, Irene, Gill and Pat Byrne. She will be taken into St James the Less RC Church Rawtenstall on Tuesday, August 13, for prayers followed by a Requiem Mass to celebrate her wonderful life.
