George was many things to many people, he was a Husband, a Brother, a Father, an Uncle, a Grandad and most recently a Great-Grandad, whatever your relationship with him George could probably be best described as your friend.
He was a fairly quiet man and the heart of the family, it is a family that meant everything to him, a family he was immensely proud of. He enjoyed hearing about what everyone had been up to.
George, was an Engineer by trade, he loved ‘tinkering’, He spent many hours out in his garage workshop working on the family’s cars alongside his sons Graham and David. George would tackle anything, be it a gear box change, exhaust problems or brake pads. Things didn’t always go swimmingly but George would never be beaten!
George loved helping everyone, it didn’t matter how big or small the task was George was up for it. It might be something as simple as giving someone a lift or taking them shopping. George has also been known to help people move house, lay patios or build garden sheds at a time when he should have been taking life at a more sedate pace.
George loved his garden, he had very green fingers, he would be eager for dark months of winter to subside when spring emerged once more, the arrival of his daffodils bursting through the soil signalled the start of the new gardening season, from that moment on George would be out in his greenhouse planting seeds and nurturing the young plants as they progressed. In summer his garden and planters would be bursting with colour which was a delight to the eyes.
These are sad times we find ourselves in, time will ease the pain, we will never forget George, but George’s spirit lives on in every one of us. One day the sun will shine again, we will look to the garden and see the emerging buds, shed a tear and a smile and know that George is looking down on us. M xx
