Moira RoseMCLAUGHLIN(née Bell) Peacefully, on Sunday the 3rd September 2023 (aged 89), surrounded by her family, Moira Rose McLaughlin, née Bell, formerly of The Breconrae, near Mouswald.

Precious wife of Jack, adored mother of Gillian, Julia, Simon and the late Mark McLaughlin, and a much loved Granny and Great-granny, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, teacher, akela and friend. Fondly-remembered Queen of the South in 1952 and esteemed primary school teacher and head teacher of many children across Dumfries, Annan and Carrutherstown. A celebration of Moira's life will take place at The Crichton Memorial Church on Friday 29th September at 12.30 pm, followed by refreshments, music, photos and stories at The Easterbrook Hall. All friends, former pupils, cub scouts and former colleagues are very welcome to attend. Moira would have liked us to wear colourful clothes to celebrate her life, so come in what makes you feel comfortable.

No flowers please. If you wish, you can make a donation to Alzheimer Scotland or Place2be online or on the day in memory of Moira.

In the photographs, I am the cub in the middle at the back; I am now seventy-six with great memories of those days when she was the inspirational and energetic Akela of our pack. Cub meetings on Friday evenings were great times.
She was also a, aspirational school teacher, just what is required at junior school age. With that start, I went on to graduate, prior to postgraduate level - all from that very sound start.
I am sure, like me, she had the knowledge that she was setting pupils on a course for their future. My teaching was at secondary level and it is a great feeling.
Like all successful careers, they require sound foundations and that was due to the patient, diligent work of teachers like Moira Bell.
My grateful thanks and many happy memories.
