Ron taught me Higher English in 1967/8 at Falkirk High. He had recently returned from Singapore and was a highly popular, charismatic teacher with a great sense of humour. I am now retired, living in England after a great career as college lecturer, then principal. I owe so much to Mr Melville for his encouragement of a boy from a council estate who felt out of place in the school environment. Ron taught us to look for the beauty to be found in our language and was truly a giant of a man, striding along with his gown. RIP.
