My sincere condolences to Fergus and Campbell Millar – I share your grief.
Allan and I were introduced by mutual friends- you could call it an arranged marriage, but we hit it off instantly. I remember him bringing me sweet potatoes soup all the way from Buclyvie to Glasgow. To quote a friend re our marriage: “Meg you’re glowing” We were like two little kids who had found a nesting. Allan was attentive and caring. He would hold my hand to cross the street. He would say “Look out” and guide me to safety. We were best of friends. What attracted me most was the perpetual but innocent smile that applied his lips. He was a very friendly caring and popular neighbour. There was spring in his steps. He didn’t walk but run everywhere even to the corner shop where he volunteered often. He would drive his neighbours to the Airport and collect them on their return for free. He loved to cook and often invited his neighbours and his late friend Mr David Forrester for dinner. His popularity was not limited to Buclyvie- I think I was one of the few who didn’t hear or know about Allan in the African community in Glasgow until I met him. He was a God father, uncle Allan or Mr Allan to others. He was generous to fault providing employment for young African students in his African restaurant. Allan was a very fulfilled man and I can say confidently that he was one of the happiest human beings I’ve ever encountered. He wasn’t the poor, lonely widower abandoned by his children, family and friends – not at all, far from it. He had an unquenchable affinity to Thailand and I’m happy that he achieved his life- long mission. I promised to visit Allan should he return to Kipping but I had moved away from Balfron, Here on his first anniversary to say sorry Allan, I couldn’t keep my promise. Allan had an extraordinary stake in my life - unforgettable, ("Honey Bee") you’ve had a good life and the best of both worlds and I know you’re still smiling. Formerly Mrs Meg MILLAR
