IanMIMNAGHof Moorhead Nursing Home, died in the Royal Blackburn Hospital on Saturday, January 16, aged 77. He was the soulmate and most beloved husband of Irene for 59 years. He was the much loved and treasured father of Kathy and Joanne, grandad to Kelly, Natalie, Lucy, Jake, and Polly, and great-grandad to Olivia, Isla, Daisy, and Lincoln. Brother to the late Keith and brother-in-law to Christine, also a father-in law to Paul and Tim. Ian was a plumber and building contractor all his life, having served his apprenticeship with Colin Bibby. During his lifetime he renovated a dilapidated pub to become a wonderful family home, and later built a large bungalow in its own grounds for another family home. Towards the end of his working life he installed wet rooms in conjunction with Hyndburn Borough Council for the elderly and disabled. Ian loved to read about the two world wars, and studied medieval history. He loved to watch motor racing and visited Silverstone and Oulton Park on many occasions. Ian and his wife spent many happy holidays touring the UK, visiting English Heritage and National Trust properties. He was a lifetime member of the Church of England and attended All Saints Church in Clayton all his life, being a young chorister. He attended the youth club there, where he met Irene again after having gone to the same junior school. He made many friends at the Wednesday morning services. The family would like to thank the staff at Moorhead Nursing Home for their wonderful kindness and love shown to Ian whilst he was a resident there. A private family service will be held at All Saints Church on Wednesday, February 3, at 12.15pm, officiated by Rev. Toby Webber, prior to committal at Accrington Cemetery at 1pm. Funeral directors will accept donations for the Alzheimer’s Society. Funeral director: Hyndburn Funeral Services.
