The obituary notice of David Edward MITCHELL

I had a wee nip of Glenmorangie on 31/8/25 in honour of Dave. I still miss the phone catch ups, there was so much to talk about despite being on the other side of the world. RIP Dave

We met Dave while visiting the Dales just under 6 years ago, our Molly was a golden retriever pup at the time and he had Amber with him who was 9 months older. We got chatting and met up again that same trip and Molly and Amber LOVED each other. Dave was a delight (though we could never get a word in edgeways) and from then on any time we were coming back to Linton (once or twice a year) we'd pop Dave a message and we'd meet up for a few walks down to the river. Amber and Molly played like pups in the church yard and Dave and us loved seeing the pure joy of it. Clear to all just how much Amber loved Dave and vice versa.

Dave had the loveliest way about him, people took to him instantly and he was great with kids too. He got to know our son once he came along. Really going to miss Dave every time we visit now, him and Amber were an integral part of the trip. If anyone knows about who has Amber/where she is now I would love to know just for peace of mind.

I'll miss his stories and the whimsical timbre of his voice. He will be dearly, dearly missed.

I was on the Tyne and Wear Fire Brigade recruits course with Dave (Mitch) which began on 1st September 1986. The course was very difficult both physically and mentally but I never saw Dave without a smile on his face.
He was one of the most friendly, genuine people I have ever met.
Taken too soon, rest in peace.

Dave and I first met when our parents moved onto the newly built Chowdene Bank housing estate, Low Fell in 1969/70. We initially became friends because of our love of racing bikes and music, We both learned to play to play our instruments together and had a repertoire mainly made up of Free and Bad Company songs. Dave and I also completed our apprenticeships at Mills and Allen Screen Printing works in Gateshead. We continued to keep in touch even though I have lived in Australia for 29 years, our lengthy phone conversations were similar to our conversations as 17 year old's, putting the world to rights, music, guitars and the antics we got up to as apprentices, we could barley talk for laughing when recalling those days. Dave was a very talented blues guitarist, a luthier, crafting truly amazing guitars from scratch, I also recall him making wooden toys for disadvantaged children when he lived in Low Fell. I will miss Dave, I can't believe that our most recent conversation on 24 July would be our last. Dave was like a brother to me, supportive, honest, genuine and a great friend who I will miss, never to be forgotten, fly high Dave, rest in peace my friend, no more pain.

Dave was a lifelong friend, who I grew up with and shared so many happy memories, although he later moved from the area, we still kept in touch and I always enjoyed our chats in putting the world to rights and especially his support during my own recent health issues. Dave will be sadly missed.Condolences to all of his family.

David was a lovely, genuine, talented man from a wonderful family. I'm going to miss him so much as we talked regularly for hours and had made plans to meet regularly and make some music together. Sadly I don't have pictures of his amazing paintings but I had the pleasure of playing some of the stunning hand crafted guitars he made from all sorts of specially bought exotic woods and top end components; what a talent. Taken far too soon, rest in peace my friend.
