AlexanderMONTGOMERYMr Alexander Montgomery, of Accrington, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday, July 5, aged 71. Alex was the devoted husband of the late Joyce, loving dad of David, dear brother of Jean, loved brother-in-law of John, Rita, Eileen, Sheila and Stephen, and a respected uncle, relative and friend to many. Born in Greenock, Scotland in 1948, Alex always remained proud of his Scottish roots. He joined the Navy in 1963 and served for his country until 1975. Following his years in service Alex moved to Lancashire and began working at Ward Knowles in Oswaldtwistle; it was here that he met the love of his life Joyce, who he later married and enjoyed a wonderful happy marriage, and he was the most doting dad to his son David. He later worked at McBrides for over 15 years before taking early retirement. Alex was a well known local face and character and could often be found chatting away with his many friends at Burnley Road Bowling Club and The Abbey Pub. He loved shopping and always looked forward to getting to the market to buy his latest gadgets. At home Alex loved to settle in front of the TV to catch up with his favourite show ‘Taggart’ and also enjoyed spending time in the garden tending to his strawberry and tomato plants. He will be sadly missed by all those that knew him. Donations can be made to BLESMA (Military Charity For Limbless Veterans). Please visit www.champfunerals.com/obituaries where you can also leave a message in the online memorial book. Funeral arrangements to be confirmed. Funeral director: Champ Funeral Services, Clayton-le-Moors.
