Mary ElizabethMORGANMary Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Morgan (nee Holly), aged 95, passed away peacefully on July 25 at Aneurin Bevan Hospital in Ebbw Vale with her son, Alwyn, by her side. She was born on 27th September 1927 in Tredegar, Wales, to parents George and Martha. Betty’s father, a ganger, organized the building of all the houses on Vale View, including the home that Betty and her siblings were born in and the one in which Betty would live throughout her life. Betty married her beloved husband, Clifford, in 1947. They welcomed a son, Alwyn, in 1949. Cliff began working as a miner when he was just fourteen and retired as the Night Shift Manager of Oakdale Colliery. The two were lifelong companions and dear friends, until Cliff’s death in December 2003. Betty worked as an auxiliary nurse in the neonatal wards at Tredegar General Hospital and at the Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny until 1986. Many of the babies she treated kept in touch with Betty later in their lives. She was a skilled technician and was proud of her time working for the NHS. Betty was sharp and quick-witted until her final days. Her mischievousness kept her family on their toes, often leaving them in stitches. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, listening to music on the wireless, flower arranging, trips to the Gower, and in her later years, cruises with her late husband, Cliff. Betty and her parents before her were active members of the Saint James’s Church of Tredegar. She is survived by her son, Alwyn, who lives in Shrewsbury, and her grandson, Gareth (Caitlin), who lives in Washington, DC. A memorial service to honor and celebrate the life of Betty Morgan will be held on 9th August at Saint George's Church, Tredegar, at 10 AM. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and share their memories. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Hospice of the Valleys in South Wales: https://www.hospiceofthevalleys.org.uk/donate-online/?utm_source=HOTV-Website&utm_medium=Website&utm_name=donate_click&utm_termdonate_click&utm_contentdonate_click
