DerekMUNTONDerek Munton, age 84, of Ste. Croix, NS, Canada, passed peacefully on April 2 2024 surrounded by his loving family at the Northwood Nursing Home in Halifax, NS after battling Chronic Leukemia and Dementia.

He was the son of Vera and Charles Munton. Derek immigrated to Nova Scotia, Canada in 1981 to live near his sister and family. He is survived by his nephew David (Charina), Ste. Croix, nieces, Suzanne (Gary), Sydney, and Tracey, Ste. Croix; and niece-in-law, Vicki Hilchie, grandnieces and nephews, Vanessa (David), Erin and Colin; 2 great-grandnieces (Jaelyn and Ariella), and many nieces and nephews in England. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Jean Eileen (Munton) Howells, twin brother, David Munton, and nephew Robin Howells.

Derek grew up in Leicester, England. He loved playing the piano...and played 'till the end! He worked in cinema for several years as a projectionist and loved it! The rest of Derek's life was dedicated to nursing. He became an RN, specialized in Psychiatry, and became a clinical teacher, a Nursing Home Administrator, and a Chief Medical Officer on the Canadian Scientific Research ship 'SS Hudson' exploring Arctic waters. He mentioned once how they collided with an iceberg! In his later years, Derek ran three nursing stations in northern Canada. Derek also wrote two books: an autobiography, and Fashion Freedom. He planned and treated the family to many trips abroad. He loved walking in nature. To Derek - to all the patients' lives he touched and helped save. To all his friends and co-workers throughout his life (in England and Canada) may you all cherish the good memories you shared with Derek. Derek was much loved by his family. He was an extremely generous person - he did so much for his family. He was an exceptional, wonderful person with a gentle soul. He will be missed greatly.

There will be no ceremony - Cremation has already taken place.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Derek may be made to the Dementia/Alzheimer Society of Canada.

My late Uncle David was a friend of Derek's going back many years. David died last year. I was able to arrange a phone call between David and Derek the year before which was the first time they had spoken for a long time. Sorry to hear about Derek's passing.

Derek was a kind, generous man. I will never forget him. He was so very thoughtful and kind to me at a very difficult time in my life. His sweet, shy smile will be greatly missed.
