DorothyNANCARROW (FLOYD)The funeral service has taken place at Camborne Wesley Chapel for Dorothy Nancarrow aged 88 of Camborne followed by private cremation at Treswithian Downs Crematorium. Reverend Keith Osborn officiated. Reg Bennett, Chris Durrant, Bob Seymour & Michael Weeks acted as bearers and Kingsley Hitchens kindly read the eulogy.

Dorothy was born on 4th February 1934 to Jack & Dora Floyd at Redruth hospital. She grew up in Four Lanes where her father was the local undertaker. From a young age Dorothy attended the Methodist Sunday School and Chapel. She went to Nine Maidens School and left at 15 to begin work at Heathcoat’s textile factory as a clerical assistant.

In May 1958 Dorothy met Roy at the Flamingo dance hall (now Morrison’s) and they married on 5th September 1959 at Illogan parish church. Their honeymoon was spent in the Norfolk Broads. When first married they lived with Roy’s father at Penhallick, Carn Brea Station. Their first child Anne was born the following year in 1960. They moved to Four Lanes in 1961, into a house that Dorothy’s father ‘Jack’ had built. Their second daughter Susan was born in May 1963 and Karen in May 1967.

They stayed in Four Lanes raising their family. In the early 1990s Susan developed rheumatoid arthritis, which over the years became progressively worse; this was one of the main reasons for moving to their bungalow in Camborne in 1997. Dorothy looked after and supported Susan, throughout her lifetime. Sadly Susan was unable to attend the service due to her disability and Anne chose to be with her.

Dorothy was delighted when her grandsons Darren and Andrew were born and loved them dearly. Dorothy and Roy enjoyed many holidays over the years, mainly at Southsea with family, from the early 1960s up until their last year in 2019; staying for the last 25 years in the same apartment on the seafront, overlooking the Solent and across to the Isle of Wight. Other holidays included Scotland, Blackpool and the Lake District. Their last holiday together was in Weymouth to celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary in September 2019.

Dorothy was always very welcoming and generous to all, friends and family who visited never went home hungry. She enjoyed gardening and baking, was always busy around the home and quite handy with a paintbrush. Dorothy very much enjoyed attending band and choir concerts with Roy. Unfortunately during the Covid pandemic their mobility deteriorated, resulting in time spent at home where they had been enjoying Andre Rieu’s concerts. She was still trying to keep going, get jobs done, even when walking with a frame, showing her determination not to give up.

Unfortunately Dorothy was admitted to hospital in November last year with a septic hip, she underwent a full hip replacement operation which went well, sadly Dorothy deteriorated over the following 7 weeks in hospital. The family were grateful to be able to bring her home, where she died peacefully on Wednesday 11th January.

Dorothy was devoted to her family and was most happy when surrounded by them. She was kind, thoughtful, loving and honest.

She was much loved and will be dearly missed.
