FredNICHOLLSMr Fred William Nicholls, of Rawtenstall, died at Lavender Hills on Saturday, June 4, aged 91. Fred worked at Mitchell Ashworth Stanfield & Co, (known as MASCO which eventually became Scapa), all his working life, starting as an apprentice at 14, and retiring in 1996 at Chief Engineer. He loved sport; he played cricket for Rawtenstall and football for Longholme. He was Captain of Rossendale Golf Club in 1976, and President of Rossendale Golf Club from 1987-1990. He also loved gardening, liked a tipple of red wine and whiskey, and holidays in France and Scotland. Fred was an Honorary Life Member of Rossendale Golf Club. He leaves wife Marian, sons Stephen and Andrew, daughters-in-law Angela and Julie, grandchildren Chris and Oliver, and great-grandchild Ivy. The funeral will be held on Thursday, June 23, with prayers at the chapel at 12.15pm, followed by service and cremation at Accrington Crematorium at 1pm, led by Rev Daniel Burton. Family flowers only; donations if desired to Rossendale Hospice.
