ErnieNICOLErnie Nicol, of Lynwood Avenue, Clayton-le-Moors, passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, May 28, aged 84 years.

Born and bred in Glasgow, he moved down to England after he married his devoted late wife Marilyn and they celebrated their diamond wedding together in June last year, shortly before unfortunately, Marilyn passed away.
When he moved down to England, Ernie became a member of the Lancashire Constabulary starting off at the old Clayton-le-Moors police station as a community “bobby”, then moving to Great Harwood, then Accrington before finally moving to Police Headquarters at Hutton prior to retiring after 30 years’ service.
After leaving the Police, Ernie spent a further 10 years with the Crown Prosecution Service and then a couple more years as a Civilian Enforcement Officer before retiring to spend time with his family.
His main interests in life were looking after his family, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, walking his own and his son’s dog and looking after his garden which was his pride and joy. In addition he loved going on holiday with his wife Marilyn and they visited many places together over the years.
He also enjoyed watching Burnley FC with his son David and grandchildren and in his later years he loved nothing more than playing bowls up at Grange Bowling Club.

A devoted family man, he sadly leaves behind his much loved son David and his partner Lisa, treasured grandchildren Sarah and her partner Tom, Katie and her husband Dominic and Tom his grandson. He was also a dearly loved “grandad sweetie” to his great-grandchildren Henry, Elsie and Mabel.

Ernie will be very sadly missed by all his family, friends and a celebration of his life will take place at Accrington Crematorium at 12.20pm on Friday, June 14.

Family flowers only please, but donations are being welcomed for the Dogs Trust.
