You'd get in late from work after a long hard night,
Your head would hit the pillow, you'd just turned out the light,
But you'd hear the tiny feet pattering across the hallway floor,
Your little Niece had woken from a bad dream once more,
Now you knew your shift was not yet over and sleep was out of sight,
Because you were the one I ran to when I woke up scared at night,
The one who'd comfort me if I'd had a fright,
The one who'd make me laugh with a funny song or joke,
Our gentle, loving Michael - your family's hearts are broke.
