Gwenda was a remarkable woman, always optimistic, positive and well organised. She would have lists for everything, not just shopping but anything she had to do such as spring cleaning and gardening.
Gwenda was also very impetuous and wherever she or I lived would always come and visit somehow. In 1975 we moved to Wick in the far north of Scotland and Gwenda and Keith lived in Swanton Morley. They had a very old banger but nevertheless set off to visit us, stopping off overnight at Mum and Dad’s in Oldham. The following morning after they left very early, Dad noticed Gwenda had left her handbag behind. Still in his pyjamas he set off to follow them only catching up with them on the M6, north of Carnforth. On the same trip they got stopped by the police as the car was displaying ‘L’ plates and Gwenda was driving. She was pleased to explain to the officer that she was the one with a licence and her husband Keith was the learner. Previous to that visit she travelled alone by train and not knowing where we lived she went straight to the police station to enquire after David. When it came to travelling, nothing phased her.
Gwenda made friends with everyone she met including the foreign staff on the cruise ships, so much so that every time they got on board they were met with hugs and smiles.
Gwenda may have been friends to many people but to me she was more than just a sister, she was my special friend and soul-mate.
Goodnight Gwenda and God Bless.
