Swansea born Alan Perry was a Welsh poet, painter, writer and retired art teacher. A past winner of the Eric Gregory Award for poetry and the Leslie Moore Award for painting, he authored 10 books of poetry and short stories, as well as a documentary book on homelessness in Swansea (Music You Don't Normally Hear) which he also adapted for the stage, all proceeds were donated to the local homeless charity. His work has been broadcast on National radio and television and appeared in a wide range of magazines, periodicals and anthologies, including Poetry 1900-2000, a collection of 100 poets of Wales of the 20th Century (Library of Wales, Parthian). He was a founding member and trustee of the Terry Hetherington Award to Young Writers and together with poet Jonathan Edwards, co-edited 'Cheval' its offshoot, for a number of issues. He was also a judge for the Kavi Vadamootoo Mauritian Book of the Year Award. His book of poems "Waters" was recently selected as a Wales Arts Review Book of the Decade. He was much beloved and is survived by his wife Jean Perry and his two sons David and Gareth and his wife Cecile.
The funeral arrangements are being handled by St James Funeral home and the cremation will take place at Swansea Crematorium on the 9th January 2024 at 2.30pm
