I was lucky to have Mr Phillips as my form teacher for two years 1959 to 1961. I doubt I would have passed the 11+ without him. RIP. From Susan Ince

A truly inspirational teacher. He was my class teacher from 1959 to 1961. Two years running. So many happy memories. We would sing the Welsh anthem to him on St. David’s day. Had a lovely residential trip to Hope in 1961. Rest in peace, Mr Phillips.

My sincere condolences to all the family. John was my Headmaster at Hessle CofE School, he was one of the people who inspired me to join the Royal Air Force when I left school in 1979. I have never forgotten him.
