When I remember Uncle G I remember a man who was full of life and generosity of spirit, as his brother, my Dad, would say. The Gerald I knew was a great host who valued family and honesty and was very funny with it. Once, I sang him a song I'd just written and he stopped me after about ten seconds and told me in no uncertain terms to stop singing in an American accent. Annoying as it was at the time, he was of course absolutely right in his criticism. I found him to be a cultured man who was interested in people and the world. One time, I went to his flat and he had been recording himself reading a literary classic on his tape recorder. We also taped a duet with me on guitar and him on mouth organ - a performance which is now sadly lost! He always had an opinion on things - usually a considered one. I became acquainted with him when I was about 15 or 16 and for a while he was a kind of ally for a kid who was rebelling a little against his parents and the world in general. I really enjoyed his company and respected his opinions, though I disagreed with some of them. I will always be thankful for the superb records he gave to Adam and myself, which became the foundations of our beloved collections, and it is Uncle G who awakened in me an interest in art through his passion for Impressionist art which he conveyed to me in such a fascinating way. The world is a less colourful place without Gerald, and my love and best wishes go to all who are affected by the sad news of his death.

Goodbye Uncle Gerald.Heartfelt condolences to you family and loved ones in the UK and Thailand. To me, growing up in the 60’s and 70’s you seemed larger than life and such fun. I remember your presence, your tales of time in the Merchant Navy, playing golf in Birmingham with you and Dad, your sports car, your ‘pad’, your rivalry with your brother, Terry, my Dad, even your knowledge of keeping ornamental fish. Also you always seemed to have a book on the go. Thank you for being a good friend to Mum before and after Dad’s passing and thank you for those records you gave us way back when - The Beatles, Dylan, Walker Brothers, Ray Charles, Sonny&Cher, The Byrds, The Fortunes, Wayne Fontana- that inspired a lifelong passion for collecting and listening to music in me and my brother. Kindness and generosity were also part of who you were to me. I hoped you found love and peace in your later years and I send kind thoughts to all. Adam x
