RussellPILKINGTONOn Wednesday 5th August, after a long, brave fight, Russ passed away, aged 64, holding the hand of his wife Carole, his first and forever love. Russ leaves behind children Nathan and Laura, stepchildren Garry, Emily, Amie and Matthew, sister Mandy, brother Darren, nieces Taylor and Elara, and uncles Peter and Craig. He was a dear brother-in-law, much loved friend of Paul, and a well-liked and popular friend and colleague to many.
On leaving school Russ joined the army and was always proud of his military background and especially of his regiment, the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers. Russ was employed by Greggs for 26 years and was still working up to his death. In his spare time Russ loved being outdoors and all wildlife and enjoyed caravan life at Rawcliffe Hall. Throughout his life though, Russ's big passion was music, and he was never happier than when there was a tune playing and a dance to be danced! In recent years Russ was a member of the Veterans in Communities choir. He had a larger-than-life personality, always positive in adversity and with a fantastic sense of humour and infectious laugh, and will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and willingness to help others. Russ will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A final farewell service will be held at Accrington Crematorium, Burnley Road BB5 6HA, on Monday 24th August at 11.40 am followed by interment in the cemetery grounds.
