I had the pleasure to work with John for a number of years when he initiated and built up the planning systems in SoM. He was a most considerate colleague, who guided his team with great kindness and good humour. I look back on my years in the planning office days with great fondness, and so am sorry to read of his and the family's struggle with his long illness. I would like to send my sincere sympathies to Mary, Anne and Rachel and the whole family for their loss.

Its so nice to see a photo of John as we remember him at AstraZeneca. Such a kind and meticulous colleague who maintained the highest standards of work in his days as planning manager for SOM. Its been so sad that he has suffered this horrid illness for so long. Condolences to all the family. Rest in Peace John. Roger Bolton

I knew John when he occupied an office just down the corridor in SoM. We enjoyed many a pleasant chat putting the world to rights and discussing the opportunities for local hill walking. We lost contact after we both retired but I will retain the memory of a very kind and thoughtful man with time for everybody.
with kindest condolences, John Topham
