President Pulman helped our investigotors

I know this is late but I only just learned of President Pulman's passing. I was looking for him. He had that effect on people. Merthyr was my first assignment as a new missionary in 1971. We taught many poor people in the Swansea Road Estates. One family, the Beechers were in need of coal to heat their home. On a visit to Ralph and Jane in Heol Gerig they wished to know what our investigators needed. Miraculously, on Christmas morning the Beechers had sacks of coal on their porch!

Inspiring Man

My memories of missionary service under President Pulman still inspire me today. My own son will leave for his mission in Bolivia in a couple of days - I hope he will be blessed with a president as great as I had.

Love was always the answer

Kind of a funny thing that President Pulman taught me that if you feed people, they are more likely to do what you want them to do. I have used this in my life and it a true principal. His humor was incredible. Perhaps one of the most important things is that he wanted his missionaries to feel good about themselves. For Christmas one year he formed what was known as "The Can-Van Band" We thought that he would just want seminary songs and hymns. He told us that he didn't want the missionaries homesick and sent us to the music store to find more popular "secular" music. He simply loved people and in return, people love him.
