George AnthonyQUIRKEPEACEFULLY in Herncliffe on Friday, April 10, Mr George Anthony Quirke, aged 83, formerly of Clayton-le-Moors. The devoted husband of the late Pat, much loved dad of Margaret, Frances, Michael, Anne Marie, Andrew and Sarah, a dear father-in-law of John, Yolanda and Caleb, cherished grandad 'Jud' of Christopher, Joseph, Anna Patricia, Danielle, Finlay and Seamus, also close friend to Mary. George Quirke became the youngest Secondary school headmaster in Lancashire when he was promoted from the Deputy Headship at St Edmund Arrowsmith (later St Bede's) in 1974. George served in this post until his retirement in 1994. At this time of his retirement, St Bede's was the most successful and sought-after Catholic State Secondary school in the region. Pat died in 2009. George leaves six children and six grandchildren. George Anthony Quirke, born Isle of Wight April 15, 1936, died Herncliffe Care Home, Keighley, West Yorkshire, April 10, 2020. Donations can be made in memory of George to Alzheimer's Society via Champ Funeral Services.
