RANDY CAINRandy Cain, a founding member of the Philadelphia vocal group The Delfonics, died on 9 April, 2009, aged 63.Known for their smooth and romantic brand of soul, The Delfonics had US top ten hits with La-La (Means I Love You) (1968) and Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time) (1970) - both of which were used on the soundtrack to the 1997 film Jackie Brown - as well as a string of successes on the R&B chart.Randy Cain was a musician with the group when they recorded their first record in 1967, singing with school friends William and Wilbert Hart.He left in 1971 and went on to help create the group Blue Magic, who had a hit in 1974 with the quirky love song Slideshow, when he brought singer and songwriter Theodore Mills to his production company. The singer later rejoined The Delfonics in the 1980s.The group enjoyed renewed popularity in later decades after their music was sampled by several major hip-hop artists, including Notorious BIG, Missy Elliott and The Fugees. The chorus of Ready or Not by The Fugees, which topped the UK charts in 1996, is based on The Delfonics' song, Ready Or Not, Here I Come (Can't Hide From Love).Randy Cain died at his home in Maple Shade, New Jersey and was survived by his mother, a sister, two sons and three grandchildren.
