David JamesRAWCLIFFEaged 62 of Rawtenstall, sadly passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Thursday, February 16 after a short illness. David was born and raised in Accrington and attended QEGS in Blackburn and graduated firstly from Manchester Polytechnic with a BSc in Polymer Science and later from Napier University in Edinburgh with an MSc in Material Science. David worked for many years in the rubber and plastics industry as a senior technologist, technical and quality manager. He spent five years of his career working in Denmark where he met his wife Charlotte Scheffmann. David and Charlotte then made Rawtenstall their home where they brought up their two children Alexander and Freya. Later in life David qualified as a teacher and taught at Accrington and Rossendale College at various points in his career. He was a strong believer in the benefits of education and was keen to contribute with his knowledge and experience from industry. He loved to travel and see the world and also had many interests such as art, music, literature, film and science. He took a keen interest in current affairs and enjoyed a good discussion with family and friends. David was also a brilliant cook, loving to create wonderful meals for family and friends. His life might have been short, but David lived it to the full. There will be a family presented celebration of David’s life at 1pm on March 1 (St David’s Day) at Accrington Crematorium, the family have requested in lieu of flowers, donations to the Rossendale Hospice.
