A one off

I met Frank when I joined Muthill in 2003. In all my games at Muthill , if I was paired with the ‘man in black’ , I knew I was in for an enjoyable day out. We rarely spoke about golf as Frank was more interested in all aspects of life. He gave me the ‘first ‘ part of his life story to read which was an immense privilege. In it he wrote of his early life with his mum and dad. He loved to talk about his childhood and teenage years. And his philosophy on life. I always came off of the golf course not really caring about how I’d played but feeling better from being in his company. At golf he was a stickler for the rules. And as progressed in years , he had to sacrifice length of shot for accuracy. With his 3 and 5 woods he would plot a straight line from tee to green. He loved winning, especially when he’d given us youngsters a bit of a lesson in how to plot the way round a golf course. A private man , Frank was gentle and kind to one and all. He enjoyed a joke and a smile was never far away. I shall miss him.
