Birthday Memoriam for Joanna RICE

Dear Jo, this is a strange reflection to be sharing but today I reach the age of 20 years more than the time you were given in life. It makes me think of how pitifully little I have managed to achieve in so many ways when measured against you. And in your influence & treasured example you just continue to grow in all the lives you touched along the way.

Eight years ago today your funeral took place after that long delay during which we couldn't see you. I will never forget certain images from that day which often return to remind me of the complicated ways of human nature & the altogether simpler ways of the one we lost. And it will always be our loss not to have known you for longer through the lean years & the good to come.

Eight years this morning since you moved with silent dignity out of our everyday lives into your next adventure where we hope you will wait & keep a place for us. So much missed because you were loved so much by all who knew you.

Eight years today you went home, back to yours for what was to be the last time. When I lost you I also lost whoever I was. It is hard to go on with this joyless stream of meaningless days. But I hope that somehow you remember it all & understand how much you meant.
