It is with sadness that I am reading this notice and offer my belated condolences to Dawn's family.
I was a student at the University of Surrey back in the 1990s, when Dawn was the department secretary.
I guess I thought Dawn would always be around, as she was always around for us then. We were the only 2 international students in our class. I recall we once told her that we had returned to campus (after vacation) earlier than planned and shared how we had a bit of a problem as our accommodation was not ready for us. She then told us that if that should happen again, we could call her. Even after having left the university 10 years later, she was the person I contacted for transcripts and such and she remembered me.
She was always approachable, warm, and welcoming, which was grateful appreciated by a teenager so far away from home for the first time.
