Joan was a cousin and lifelong friend of my mother Edith. Mum still regularly recalls memories of the times in their youth that they spent playing darts together in the Tap Room of the Blue Bell and also the holidays that they had shared together.

In later years, mum and Joan spent many a Sunday afternoon chatting and discussing the contents of the Ashby Times over a cup of tea.

I have my own childhood memories of visiting “Aunt Lil” and “Aunty Joan” in the “big house” on Burton Road and, in more recent years, I often visited Joan with my mum in her bungalow. I would take her a Victoria Sponge cake that I’d baked, one of Joan’s favourites, and chat to her about golf, a pastime that Joan had enjoyed and that I was embarking upon in retirement.

Happy Times! Happy Memories!

Love from,

Edith and Helena

It was such a pleasure to meet Joan and her family. What a special lady she was. She had the most infectious smile that lit up the room and a beautiful twinkle to her eyes.
She will be missed greatly, it was a privilege to have known her.
