Dr John HindleRITCHIEIt is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, John Ritchie, who died peacefully on the 1st November 2024, aged 87 years at The Manor Care Home in Upton, Wirral.
John Ritchie left a lasting legacy of the Liverpool Waterfront we see and enjoy today. As Chief Executive of the Merseyside Development Corporation (1985-91), in the 1980's he led the regeneration and redevelopment of the Liverpool Waterfront including the Albert Dock, the award winning Liverpool International Garden Festival in 1984 and he personally orchestrated the Columbus 500th Anniversary Tall Ships Race from Europe to America to come to Liverpool in 1992.
Beyond his professional achievements, John was a man of immense warmth, kindness and generosity, with a dry Geordie sense of humour. A beloved husband to Anne, a devoted father to his daughters Jane and Nicola and a proud grandfather to his grandchildren.
His lifetime passion was urban and rural conservation, but he found his greatest joy in the company of his family and friends. His wisdom, humour and support will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
His funeral service will be held at Our Lady and St John's Church, Heswall at 12 noon, on Friday 6th December.
The family kindly requests donations to Claire House Children's Hospice, instead of flowers.
